ABOUT AFROFARM ENTERPRISE
Our Story
AfroFarm Enterprise® is a genuine heritage brand, rooted in the rich agricultural traditions of East Africa, honoring the region's legacy of farming excellence and cultural heritage. Inspired by Remen&Amilen family's farming legacy, dating back to the 1960s; their journey began with humble beginnings, tilling the fertile lands, cultivating crops, and managing animal migration. Today, AfroFarm Enterprise carries on this legacy, blending tradition with modern agricultural practices, just as the ancestral clan did for generations.
Similarly, the Kweka family's farming legacy was built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and a passion for the land. While they were esteemed for their agricultural prowess, they were also known for their warm hospitality, joyful spirits, and love of celebration. They affectionately referred to themselves as "The Chagga Clan" - a name that reflected their close-knit family bond and their reputation for lively gatherings and storytelling.
The origin of AfroFarm Enterprise's name has long been a subject of curiosity. Like many organizations, its naming was a happy accident. During a harvest celebration at the family farm, a respected elder from the community joined in the festivities. As he prepared to leave, he gazed at the vibrant gathering and remarked, 'You Chaggas are like flock of sheep - always moving together in harmony, just like a well-tended herd that grazes in the nearby pasture.' The Chaggas embraced the comparison, recognizing the resilience and adaptability of sheep, which thrives in the region's grasslands. From that moment on, the name AfroFarm Enterprise was born, symbolizing the family's commitment to unity, perseverance, and nurturing growth in every field they touch.

AfroFarm founders, Remen Kweka and his wife Amilen, are fourth-generation farmers. They were all born and raised in Tanzania, but Remen finished his education in Kenya, while Amilen completed hers in Tanzania. Bildad, their last born son, inherited their passion for retail trade, the outdoors, and sporting tradition from them.

Considerable curiosity has often been expressed why the name of "AfroFarm Enterprise" was adopted by this family business. Like the odd and catchy names of other associations, formed for either business or pleasure, it was merely a matter of accident. The family was gathered at their farm one day, celebrating a bountiful harvest, when they were joined by a respected elder from the community. He was made to feel at home, invited to participate in the many good things to eat and drink, and hugely enjoyed the fun and good stories. Late in the evening, as he was about to depart for home, he stepped in the doorway and addressed his hosts as follows:
"I've known this tribe for many a year in your fields and markets, and never thought they'd be so prosperous, but out here on the land, they are just like a flock of sheep - hardworking, resilient, and thriving together."
What the old man said that evening struck home, and the name AfroFarm Enterprise was adopted at once, symbolizing their commitment to unity, perseverance, and nurturing growth(2005).
